Yangon, Myanmar Community, East-Asia Province – 11th October 2026

The Good Shepherd Sisters in the Myanmar Community celebrated the International Day of the Girl Child through awareness-raising activities that brought together scholarship students, girls, and women from surrounding communities. Guided by this year’s theme, “End Child Marriage and Invest in Girls’ Rights!”, the activities aimed to raise awareness of girls’ rights, promote access to quality education, and encourage the prevention of violence, discrimination, and child marriage.

Approximately 90 children and girls participated in the activities, which included educational sessions facilitated by the Good Shepherd Sisters and ministry staff. Through discussions and knowledge-sharing, participants learned about gender equality, the importance of education, violence prevention, and the consequences of child marriage. The sessions also provided opportunities for the girls to share their experiences, express their abilities, and learn from one another in a supportive environment.

By engaging children and members of surrounding communities, the Good Shepherd Sisters also sought to strengthen awareness of the importance of creating safe and supportive environments where girls can learn, grow, and pursue their aspirations.

The International Day of the Girl Child reminds us that every girl deserves dignity, protection, education, and the opportunity to shape her own future. Ending child marriage and addressing gender discrimination require the collective commitment of families, communities, and organizations to uphold girls’ rights and support their development.

Through these activities, the Good Shepherd Sisters in Myanmar reaffirmed their commitment to accompanying girls and supporting communities in building a future where every girl is respected, protected, and empowered to reach her full potential.
