“Healing the Earth, Caring for Our Common Home”

Yangon, Myanmar community, East-Asia Province – 10th October 2026

On 10 October 2026, the Myanmar Community of the Good Shepherd Sisters and the mission partners gathered at the Ecology Garden of the Good Shepherd compound in Yangon to celebrate the Global Green Lung Initiative under the theme, “Healing the Earth, Caring for Our Common Home.”. A priest, members of other congregations from the Catholic Religious Conference of Myanmar (CRCM), and people living within the compound also joined the celebration.

The gathering aimed to deepen awareness of caring for our common home, inspired by the life and history of Blessed Aguchita. The East Asia Province Leader, Sr.Rebecca Kay Thi Oo began the celebration with an opening prayer and reflection on Laudato Si’, the encyclical of Pope Francis on care for our common home.

During the prayer service, participants reflected on the global environmental crisis and the close relationship between God, creation, and humanity. Through prayerful music and meaningful activities, touched the soil, connected with the plants, and spent time in conversation with nature. We expressed gratitude and appreciation for the gifts of the Earth and offered sincere apologies for the ways humanity has overused and abused nature. We also renewed our commitment to healing the relationship between the Earth and human beings.

The celebration continued with planting and watering activities in the Ecology Garden. Everyone participated joyfully, experiencing a deeper connection with nature and a shared responsibility to protect and care for the environment.

The gathering concluded with a closing prayer, bringing everyone together in hope and commitment to continue caring for our common home.

Through this meaningful celebration, the Good Shepherd Sisters, the mission partners, and all participants were reminded that caring for the Earth is a shared responsibility and an important expression of gratitude, love, and respect for all creation.
