The Good Shepherd Sisters and the Partners in Mission joyfully celebrated the feast day of Mary Euphrasia Pelletier on 24 April 2026 across all our communities in Myanmar, despite the ongoing political instability in the country.

The celebration was marked with solemn Eucharistic gatherings held in each house, bringing together Sisters, partners, and members of the wider community. During the Mass, participants were introduced to the congregation’s mission and charism, as well as the inspiring life and vision of the foundress, Mary Euphrasia Pelletier.

Special emphasis was given to the historical roots of the congregation in Myanmar. It was recalled that as early as 1866, Mary Euphrasia Pelletier courageously extended the mission to Myanmar by sending five missionary Sisters. This act reflected her deep passion and commitment to mission, despite the many difficulties and challenges of travel and communication during that period.

As part of the celebration, Sr. Assumpta Shwe, the country leader, shared the life story and missionary spirit of Mary Euphrasia with nineteen young women participating in the “Come and See” program held from 23 to 29 April 2026 in Yangon. Her sharing encouraged the participants to reflect on their own call and openness to serve.

The feast day celebration not only honored the legacy of the foundress but also inspired renewed commitment among the Sisters and the partners in continuing the mission of compassion, reconciliation, and service in Myanmar today.

Inspired by the words of our foundress, “One person is more value than the world,” the Sisters and Partners in Mission renewed our commitment to serve with compassion and courage. Just as Mary Euphrasia Pelletier showed deep love and dedication to mission in challenging times, the celebration became a powerful reminder to remain faithful and hopeful, continuing the mission of reconciliation and care for those most in need.
